Situations Requiring Decontamination

Aeromedical transport may be limited or delayed in environments contaminated with radiological, biochemical, or infectious agents. These situations may limit or delay air resources due to (a) the time needed to decontaminate aircraft after the flight, (b) the availability (or lack) of an aircrew that is not contaminated and is willing to fly, (c) the need to batch similarly exposed patients, and (d) the ability to isolate patients on the aircraft.17 Prior to transport, decontaminate any patients with external contamination. During the flight, isolate any patient with a communicable disease.
